Nashville pest control

We are Tennessee's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Nashville raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Nashville pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Nashville Raccoon Control Tip: Getting Rid of Raccoons in the Attic
Here are some procedures to follow in order to deal with the raccoon effectively.

A raccoon in your attic or property should always be assumed to be a mother raccoon and should be treated humanely. Raccoons do not like attacking people and would rather escape than get into a fight. A mother raccoon would rather find another den than put her young ones in danger.

  • If you have raccoons in your attic, you should not do anything at first. Typically, raccoons live in attics for a short period because the young ones will grow up and become independent, leaving the attic den where they were raised in. Mother raccoons also move their young ones between dens during the nesting period so that they can be independent. If you decide to let the raccoons stay until they grow up and leave the attic den, you should close up the potential entrances to the attic so that other raccoons can't gain access.
  • You can make the attic inconvenient for the raccoons nesting in it. Raccoons like a dark, quiet, and safe place, so if you light up the attic, install some sound generators, and make the place unsafe for the raccoons, the raccoons will be forced to leave. Your main focus should be on the areas close to the entrance of the raccoon's den so that it would get the attention of the raccoon. Make sure the light you use won't cause a fire. The light should chase the raccoons off because these nocturnal creatures do not like light. You can place a radio set close to the entrance of the den. The sound of human voices threatens raccoons. For smell, you can dip a rag in ammonia and hang the rag at the entrance of the den. This could help with the combination of light and sound to chase the raccoons off. You need to be patient for the method stated above to work, keep doing it for at least three days.
If you stop hearing the sound of the raccoon's activities, you shouldn't be quick to conclude that the raccoons are out of the attic. Instead, conduct a paper test. A paper test is done by stuffing the entrance of the raccoon's den with paper or closing it with tape and waiting for three days. If the paper or tape is still in place or you still don't hear the sound of raccoon activities in the attic, then it is safe to conclude that the raccoons are no longer in your attic. Seal the raccoon's den permanently, but if it has to be temporary, then cover the hole with a wire mesh or hardware cloth.

  • Do not use live traps on the raccoons. Trapping and relocating the raccoons might seem like a humane thing to do, but it actually isn't. Raccoons have a low chance of survival when relocated to a new territory. Young raccoons will die if their mother is not there to take care of them because she has been relocated. When frightened as a result of being in a new environment, a mother raccoon will abandon her babies. In some parts of the world, it is actually illegal to relocate wild animals, raccoons included.
  • A humane trapping method you can use for raccoons is the one-way door method. A one-way door would allow the raccoon to get out of your attic but would be unable to get back in. It is best to use one-way doors from January to September. One con of using a one-way door is that the mother raccoon can be separated from her young ones because the babies are too young to follow their mother, eventually trapping them and leaving them to die of starvation. Also, the mother raccoon will try to get back to her young ones and will damage your property in the process of doing so. So if you decide to use the one-way trapping method, ensure that the baby raccoons are old enough to follow their mother out of the attic when the one-way trap door is installed.
You can contact professional animal removal services to take care of your raccoon problem. It is best and easier for you if you contact them because dealing with raccoons is really strenuous and frustrating work.
